Understanding your skin



The skin is a complex organ composed of several cell types and structures, designed to protect our body from the environment. It is composed of 3 skin layers namely the Epidermis which is the outermost layer, followed by the deeper Dermis made up primarily of connective tissue, follicles, glands, sensory nerves and vessels to feed epidermis. The dermis is separated from the epidermis by a structure known as the Dermal-epidermal junction. The deepest layer of skin is called the Hypodermis or Subcutis, which is made up of fatty tissue. The hypodermis attaches the dermis to its underlying tissues.

GLYCOLIC PEEL SKIN TREATMENT: THE NEOSTRATA SKIN REJUVENATION SYSTEM

NeoStrata glycolic peel treatments are quick, in-office procedures performed by trained professionals under the supervision of our on-staff Physician.

A glycolic acid peel treatment is a specific technique for skin renewal. During this process, a high concentration of glycolic acid is applied to the skin for a short period of time and then chemically neutralized to end the treatment. The procedure rapidly removes the damaged layer of surface skin cells revealing fresh skin, and stimulating cell rebuilding and restructuring of deeper skin layers.

MICRODERMABRASION


Microdermabrasion is a mini procedure that involves the skin being "sandblasted" by aluminum oxide crystals or an abrasive surface such as Diamond to remove the stratum corneum (top) layer of the skin; dead skin cells. Microdermabrasion also promotes the production of new cells in the basal (deepest) layer of the dermis. Microdermabrasion requires no down time. It can clean your pores incredibly and hinder any future breakouts if used on a regular basis. Microdermabrasion also stimulates collagen networking to further even out skin texture and appearance.

The best candidates for microdermabrasion are individuals with acne prone and blotchy skin, small scars, rhytides, keratoses, large pores, milia, or sebaceous hyperplasia. If you have sun damage or uneven texture and would like to improve the condition of your skin, you may be a good candidate for Microdermabrasion.

Microdermabrasion is not recommended for those who have active keloids, undiagnosed lesions, recent herpes outbreaks, warts, active, weeping acne (stages 3 to 4), active rosacea, unstable diabetes or autoimmune disorders



INTENSE PULSED LIGHT (IPL)

IPL uses pulsed light to correct a number of benign skin conditions such as: - brown pigmentation - age spots - small red veins - lines and wrinkles - sun damage and redness IPL also offers gentle, non-invasive permanent hair reduction on all body areas.

IPL systems work on the same principles as lasers in that light energy is absorbed into particular target cells with colour (chromophores) in the skin. The light energy is converted to heat energy, which causes damage to the specific target area. IPL systems are different to lasers in that they deliver many wavelengths (or colours) in each pulse of light instead of just one wavelength. Most IPL systems use filters to refine the energy output for the treatment of certain areas. This enhances penetration without using excessive energy levels and enables targetting of specific chromophores (these are skin components that absorb light).

IPL therapy is considered a non-ablative resurfacing technique, which means that it targets the lower layers of skin (dermis) without affecting the top layers of skin (epidermis). The results are not as dramatic as ablative resurfacing where both the dermis and epidermis are injured to produce a much more noticeable overall outcome. The advantage of IPL therapy is its minimal downtime – a patient can often have the procedure done in their lunch break and return to work immediately afterwards.

MESOTHERAPY

Pioneered by the French Physician Dr Michel Pistor in 1952, Mesotherapy is a non-surgical, relatively painless injection procedure that is used worldwide to treat a broad range of conditions. Mesotherapy specifically targets areas with microinjections of vitamins minerals amino acids, conventional medications and homeopathic preparation. These microinjections are delivered directly into the mesoderm to promote the body’s circulatory, lymphatic and immune systems to create a biological response and reverse abnormal physiology.

For Body sculpting, Facial Sculpting, and cellulite reduction, we use a product whose active ingredient is Phosphatidylcholine. STOPPING THE CLOCK

A person's age has traditionally been defined by the number of years a person has lived. This is called the chronological age. The biological age on the other hand looks at a persons age at the cellular level and how it functions. We all have come across individuals who appear and function younger or older than their stated age.
